Biography
Hello. I'm Melissa, stylist and owner of Beehive Hair Studio in Boulder, CO.
Growing up the daughter of a stylist (Ida Mae Byers of Milton, PA., now retired), i've spent most of my life in the salon.
After moving to Connecticut in 1993, I attended the Connecticut Institute of Hair Design and earned my cosmetology license in 1995. I began my career and opened my first salon, tangled up, on State Street in New Haven.
While in New Haven, I also attended Southern Connecticut State University where I received my bachelor's degree in studio art and graphic design. I believe this art background strengthened my skills in hair styling by providing me a deeper understanding of color theory and sculpture.
I eventually headed west in search of something new and found Boulder along the way. I moved here in 2002 and opened the doors of Beehive in 2003. i love being part of the Boulder community and hope to spend many more years styling in Colorado.
